About the SL-Class
The SL ("Super-Leicht", super light) has been made since 1954, when the 300 SL racing car was turned into a road car at the suggestion of the American importer Max Hoffman. It has been Mercedes-Benz's grand touring roadster ever since, sold as the Mercedes-AMG SL from 2022.
What these manuals cover
- 1994–2000 (R129): the SL 320's 3.2 six, the SL 500's 5.0 V8 and the SL 600's 6.0 V12.
- 2003–2011 (R230): the SL 500 and SL 550 V8s, the supercharged SL 55 AMG, the twin-turbo SL 600 and SL 65 AMG V12s, and the SL 63 AMG.
Tip: earlier SLs are listed with the 300 Series and 500 Series manuals. The first number in brackets is the model code (129.067 is an R129), and the second is the engine code.
