Sable V6-183 3.0L DOHC VIN S MFI (1997)
1. Measure distance between major (A-A) and minor (B-B) diameters of each cam lobe with a Vernier caliper and record readings. The difference in
readings is lobe lift.
2. If readings do not meet specification, replace camshaft.
End Play
1. Remove valve covers (6582).
2. Using Dial Indicator with Bracketry TOOL-4201-C or equivalent, measure end play while moving camshaft back and forth. If the end play is
greater than 0.30 mm (0.0118 inch), replace camshaft and/or cylinder head.
3. Install valve covers. Follow proper procedure and tighten bolts to specification in sequence.
Oil Clearance
1. Remove all foreign material and oil from the camshaft journals and cylinder head bearing surfaces.
2. Set the camshafts into the cylinder head.
3. Position Plastigage(R) material on top of the journals in the axial direction.
CAUTION: Follow proper procedures when tightening or loosening camshaft bearing journal caps.
4. Install cylinder head journal caps.
