Connecting Rod: Service and Repair
Cleaning

CAUTION:  Do not use a caustic cleaning solution or damage to connecting rods may occur.

DESCRIPTION 

Connecting rods may be cleaned in hot or cold commercial tank-type cleaners. They may also be cleaned with automotive parts cleaning solvents or
steam cleaned.

PROCEDURES 

1. Remove the connecting rod bearings from the connecting rod and cap.
2. Identify the connecting rod bearings if they are to be reused.
3. Clean the connecting rod in solvent, including the rod bore and the back of the connecting rod bearings.
4. Blow out all passages with compressed air.
