In the event that a rattling sound is experienced in the tailgate area of Cordia models, in particular when driving at low speeds, the following steps should
be taken to correct this condition.
1.
Adjust tailgate latch (see Cordia/Tredia Service Manual Group 23, page 59).
2.
Check condition of the adjustable rubber bumpers on the tailgate. Adjust or replace as applicable.
3.
Check tailgate alignment. Adjust hinges if necessary.
4.
Lubricate latch, rubber bumpers, hinges, and tailgate dampers.
The preceding steps will correct the condition in most cases.
If, however, the condition persists and the vehicle has a Vehicle Identification Number that precedes those listed above, install two (2) new tailgate
dampers (MB 112982) and adjust as follows:
1.
Remove existing tailgate dampers. Loosely install new damper (MB112982). Insert damper shim (MB112206) between damper and
quarter panel and tighten.
NOTE:
Prior to installing the dampers, apply body sealant (3M-08547 or equivalent) to the screw holes to prevent possible water leakage.
