1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Release fuel system pressure.
3. Remove timing belt as outlined under TIMING BELT.
4. On SOHC engines, remove camshaft sprocket bolt using end yoke holder tool Nos. MB990767 and MD998719 or equivalent.
5. On DOHC engines, remove rocker covers. Remove camshaft sprocket bolts by securing camshaft using a suitable wrench on flats of camshaft,

6. On all models, cut out a portion in camshaft oil seal lip, Fig. 30.
7. Cover tip of a suitable screwdriver with a clean

soft cloth and pry out seal at cut out portion of seal. Use care not to damage camshaft or cylinder head.
8. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a.
Install oil seals using seal installation tool No. MD998713-01 or equivalent, on SOHC engines or No. MD998761 or equivalent on DOHC
engines.

On DOHC engines, tighten rocker cover bolts in sequence shown in Fig. 31. Install black colored bolts on engine front bank and green
colored bolts on rear bank. Bolt No. 5 is longer than the other bolts used.
