Drive Belt: Adjustments
Power Steering

1. Use a belt tension gauge to check that the belt tension is at the standard value at a point half way between the two pulleys (indicated by an arrow in

the illustration). In addition, press this section with a force of 98 N (22 lbs.) and check that the amount of belt deflection is at the standard value.
Standard Values
Tension:

When Checked:  294 -  490 N (66 - 110 lbs.)
When A New Belt Is Installed:  490 - 686 N (110 -  154 lbs.)
When A Used Belt Is Installed:  343 - 441 N (77 - 99 lbs.)

Deflection (Reference Value)

When Checked:  13.0 -  17.0 mm (0.52 - 0.68 inch)
When A New Belt Is Installed:  11.0 - 13.0 mm (0.44 -  0.52 inch)
When A Used Belt Is Installed: 14.0 -  16.0 mm (0.56 - 0.64 inch) 

2. If the tension or deflection is outside the standard value, adjust by the following procedure. 

a. Loosen the tension pulley nut.
b. Adjust the amount of belt deflection the using the adjusting bolt. 
c. Tighten the tension pulley nut to 49 Nm (36 ft. lbs.). 

NOTE:  Check after turning the crankshaft once or more clockwise.

d. Check the belt deflection amount and tension, and readjust if necessary.
