SUBJECT:
VIBRATION AT ACCELERATION

PURPOSE
A vibration may be felt from the rear axle when accelerating from a stop and driving straight. This is caused by the internal design of rear axle housing.
Begining with October, 1996 vehicle production, the housing has been modified to eliminate the vibration.

An improved rear axle housing assembly replacement part is available to eliminate the vibration when driving straight after stopping. This bulletin
describes how to identify the new assembly.

AFFECTED VEHICLES

1997 Montero Sport models produced before October, 1996 (VIN VP000532)

PROCEDURE

Replace the rear axle housing with new, improved parts. The new housing assembly can be identified by the two welding marks on the rear of the gear
case housing as shown:
