Oil Pump: Service and Repair
To remove oil pump pickup, refer to Oil Pan, Engine.
1. Remove timing belt as outlined under Timing Belt.
2. Remove oil pan and oil screen, then the front case.
3. Remove oil pump cover, then the inner and outer gears from front case. Mark outer gear surface facing timing case so it can be installed in same
direction.
4. Remove relief valve plug, spring and valve.
5. Reverse procedure to install, noting following:
a. Lubricate oil pump internal components with engine oil before installing.
b. Tighten oil pump cover attaching bolts to specification.
c. After installing oil pump cover, check to ensure oil pump gears rotate smoothly. Tighten relief valve plug to specification.

d. When installing front case attaching bolts, refer to Fig. 18, and note that bolts installed in location "A" are 1.18 inches in length, bolts installed
in location " B" are 0.79 inches in length and bolts installed in location "C" are 2.36 inches in length.
e. When installing oil seal, lubricate seal lips with engine oil, then position seal on crankshaft and tap into front case using seal installer tool No.
MD998304, or equivalent.
f.
Before installing oil pan, apply sealer at four front case and rear oil seal case to cylinder block mating surfaces.
g. Tighten front timing case attaching bolts and oil pan attaching bolts to specification.
