Brake Caliper: Service and Repair
Front
1.
Raise and support vehicle, then remove wheel.
2.
Disconnect brake hose at wheel house and strut assembly.
3.
Remove front brake assembly.
4.
Remove brake pads, then separate caliper body from caliper support.
Caliper Service
1.
Using slide pin, push out bushing from caliper support.
2.
Remove cap and pin boot from caliper support.
3.
Place rag in front of piston and remove piston and dust boot by slowly applying compressed air through brake hose fitting hole.
4.
Using screwdriver, remove piston seal, being careful not to damage cylinder bore.
5.
Clean caliper bore with brake fluid.
6.
Inspect all components, replacing as necessary.
7.
Insert new piston seal into cylinder. New piston seal is coated with special grease. Do not wipe off this grease.
8.
Apply pink grease supplied with repair kit to lip of cylinder.
9.
Apply brake fluid to external surface of piston.
10.
Install new dust boot on piston.
11.
Fit end of dust boot into caliper body groove and insert piston into cylinder head by hand. Ensure that end of dust boot is fitted into piston groove.
12.
Apply pink grease supplied with repair kit to contact surface of slide pin, seat surface of cap for caliper support, and inside surface of pin boot.
13.
Mount cap and pin boot to caliper support.
14.
Apply pink grease supplied with repair kit to inside surface of bushing.
15.
Apply adhesive supplied with repair kit to lip of slide pin bushing and insert bushing into caliper support using slide pin.
16.
Apply brake fluid to screw part of slide pin.
17.
Using pink grease supplied with repair kit, apply thin coat to slide pin, then install caliper body to caliper support.
Caliper Installation
Reverse removal procedure to install, then bleed brake system.
