13.

Calculating shim thickness as follows:
a. Preload on the plunger is from 0.02 to 0.008mm.
b. Shim thickness to be installed: e=d+0.05, Fig. 4.
c. Available shims are; 0.10, 0.12, 0.15, 0.18, 0.20, 0.30, 0.40, 0.50, 0.60, 0.70, or 0.80.

Remove dial indicator, support and reference shim pack.

Check thickness of spring washer. If not 1.5mm, replace it.

16.

Install on cover plate, shims determined, starting with the thinnest.

17.

Install spring washer, ensure washer (6) is in place, cup and cover plate with shims.

18.

Install cover bolts and tighten to specifications.

19.

Operate rack from one stop to the other using and open end wrench. Ensure it does not bind.

20.

If operation is acceptable, install steering rack and test.
