405 L4-1905cc 1.9L (1989)
-
The 505 style insulators must be trimmed to properly fit the 405 brake pad.
-
Remove brake pads from the vehicle (See Mechanical Workshop Manual, Section 8, Pages D4.002-D4.005).
-
Thoroughly clean the backside of the brake pads with carburetor cleaner or similar solvent. It is not necessary to remove the factory
insulators.
-
Lay insulators to be trimmed face down on a clean, flat surface.
-
Carefully place brake pad backing plate on insulators and trace the outline of the pad onto the insulator.
-
Using a pair of scissors, trim the insulators along the inside edge of the traced lines.
-
Remove the backing from the insulators and install them on the brake pads.
-
Reinstall brake pads, being careful not to disturb the insulators.
NOTE:
If insulators are applied to new brake pads (which have an abrasive coating), the noise level may actually increase slightly for the first
500-1000 miles, until the abrasive coating wears off.
