Element Housing

A flexible plastic pipe, in which the drive cable runs, produces the connection between both element housings.
The plastic pipe is installed in the element housings with two adapters to prevent turning. The drive cable guide pipe and the end pipe are also inserted
into the adapters from the opposite end and also bolted on the element housing.
Drive of the lifting elements is accomplished by the drive cable acting on the large gear ring of the double gear wheels. The lifting elements with teeth on
the sides are driven off the small gear ring. When assembling gear wheels and lifting elements, it is important to make sure that the marks of both gear
wheels (left and right elements) are aligned.

The roof frame has studs which secure the consoles (1) for installation of the element housings. The consoles can be adjusted in height by the adjusting
nuts (2).
When installing, the element housings are slid into the consoles against stop and bolted from behind.
Make sure that both element housings are parallel to each other. This can be done by measuring the distance between the lifting elements in the run-in
and run-out positions. If necessary, loosen and adjust the element housings.
From 4/86 as of VIN 94GN458670 944 95GN154953 944 Turbo 92HN450584 924S There is an additional height adjustment of the lifting roof for the
closed position.
The adjusting screws align the lifting roof flush with the car roof.

From 4/86 together with additional height adjustment, aluminum profiles are cemented on the inside of the lifting roof for reinforcement, and to increase
stability. The former contour adjustment has been omitted. The new lifting roof is also fitted with a double chamber roof seal.
Installation Note:

The trim panel on the inside of the lifting roof is mounted with spreader rivets. When repairing, the rivet centers must be drilled out.

From 3/25/86 to 4/1/86 old and new version roof panels were mixed in production. Only new version roof panels will have the additional height
adjustment.
Emergency Operation

In the event the electric lifting roof drive becomes inoperative, the lifting roof can be operated manually.

The gear drive shaft is accessible through the opening of the side cover plate after removing the cap.
The lifting drive can be operated by turning with the spark plug wrench.
Readjustment of the friction clutch is no longer necessary.
