TI

Abbreviation for technical instructions. General administration guidelines for plants that require authorization issued by the German government as
Noise TI and Air TI; legally based on the Federal Pollutant Control Act.

Noise TI: contains guide values for noise immissions, divided according to the type of utilization in the corresponding areas.

Air TI: contains guide values for immissions as well as for emission values that are specific to substances and plants.

Municipal waste TI: This new administrative guideline places strict environmental restrictions on the disposal of household garbage and industrial
waste that is similar to household garbage, construction waste and sludge. These instructions are meant to help districts and cities in maintaining
safe disposal practices.

Tolerance

Tolerance is:

1. the ability of an organism to tolerate certain influences without noticeable damage.
2. in foodstuffs and feed, the acceptable or accepted Maximum amounts of (pesticide) traces per kilogram of foodstuff or feed, expressed in ppm.

Tolerance limit

Highest acceptable concentration of hazardous substances in the environment that can not be exceeded without causing harm to living organisms.

Total toxicity

Total amount of contamination due to pollutants in food, water and air. See: Synergy.

Toxic equivalent

The amount of poison required to poison 1 kilogram of laboratory animal.

Toxicity

The extent to which a substance is poisonous. The following definitions apply:

acute toxicity: the extent to which an active ingredient or product is poisonous upon a single exposure

subchronic toxicity: the extent to which the active ingredient is poisonous upon repeated exposure within a relatively short period of time relative
to the organism's lifespan

chronic toxicity: the extent to which an active ingredient is poisonous upon repeated exposure over a longer period of time

Toxicology

Trade control

Work inspection or monitoring of technical protection measures for life and health of employees and population as well as inspection of work time by
trade supervisory agencies with trade supervisors to be appointed by the district government.
