Fuel Gauge

The fuel gauge receives an ignition supply from fuse 1 on the G wire and is earthed by the B wire for the instrument pack.

Voltage is applied across the fuel tank sender unit creating a current in the G/B wire. When the gauge unit float is at its lowest point, indicating an empty fuel tank, the resistance is high producing a low current in the G/B wire causing a small deflection on the gauge. The resistance value to fuel gauge position is:

Sender resistanceFuel gauge position

Tachometer

The tachometer receives a 12 volt ignition supply from fuse 1 on the G wire and an earth path is provided on the B wire.

Speedometer

The speedometer receives a 12 volt ignition supply from fuse 1 on the W/O wire and an earth path is provided on the B wire.

Warning lights

Ignition/no charge warning light The ignition/no charge warning light receives battery voltage on the G wire from fuse 1 in the passenger compartment fuse box and an earth path via the charging circuit on the N/Y wire.

Check engine warning light (Diesel only) The check engine warning light receives battery voltage on the G wire from fuse 1 in the passenger compartment fuse box and an earth path via the engine management circuit on the G/O wire.

Oil pressure warning light When oil drops below a set level, the contacts in the oil pressure switch close supplying the warning light with an earth path on the W/N wire.
