Cruise Actuator

The cruise control unit activates the vacuum, vent, and safety solenoids in the cruise actuator in order to control throttle position.

Speed Sensor

With the ignition ON, voltage is applied to the speed sensor on the Y wire from Fuse 8 of the passenger compartment fuse box. Earth is provide by the B wire. The speed sensor sends a vehicle speed signal to the cruise control unit. This signal is a pulsing voltage, and changes according to the vehicle speed.

Brake Lamp Switch

Voltage is applied at all times to the brake lamp switch on the W/Y wire from fuse 41 of the engine compartment fuse box. With the ignition and the main cruise switch ON, voltage is also applied to the brake lamp switch on the LG wire. When the brake pedal is released a voltage signal is sent to the cruise control unit on the S wire and no signal is sent on the G/W wire. When the brake pedal is depressed the brake lamp switch signals are reversed. A voltage signal is sent to the cruise control unit on the G/W wire and no signal is sent on the S wire. This reversal of signals informs the cruise control unit that the brake pedal has been depressed.

Cruise Control Indicator (in Instrument Pack)

When the cruise control system is enabled, the vehicle speed is more than 30 mph (45 km/h), and a cruise speed has been set, the cruise control unit will light the cruise control indicator by providing ground on the R wire.

Automatic Inhibitor Switch (Automatic Gearbox)

Earth is provided to the automatic inhibitor switch by the B wire. When the gear selector is in the D4, D3, or 2 position, an earth signal is applied to the cruise control unit on the K wire. If the gear selector is moved to another position the earth supply is removed, and the cruise control unit disables the cruise system.

Clutch Switch (Manual Gearbox)

Earth is provided to the clutch switch by the B wire. When the clutch pedal is released an earth signal is applied to the cruise control unit on the K wire. If the clutch pedal is depressed the earth supply is removed, and the cruise control unit disables the cruise system.
