Wiper Parking
When the wash/wipe switch is turned to the OFF position the windscreen wiper motor continues to run until the wiper blades reach the ’Park’ position. This is accomplished by a micro-switch contained in the windscreen wiper motor.
When the wash/wipe switch is turned to OFF and the wiper blades are not in the ’Park’ position, an earth return path is provided via the U wire, wash/wipe switch, U/W wire, wiper relay, U/W wire, micro-switch contacts, and the B wire to the windscreen wiper motor. When the motor reaches the ’Park’ position, the micro- switch interrupts the earth return and the motor stops.
Programmed Wash/Wipe
Washer fluid is sprayed on to the windscreen from the bonnet mounted jets, when the right-hand steering column lever is lifted towards the driver. Operation of this switch provides a voltage supply via the G/B wire, closed switch contacts, and B/Y wire to the windscreen washer pump. The earth return path for the pump is on a B wire.
Operation of this switch also sends a voltage signal to the MFU on the B/Y wire. The windscreen wiper motor is then controlled by the MFU in the same way as described in ’Intermittent Wipe’. The MFU causes the wiper motor to run 0.6 second after the washer switch is operated, for as long as the switch remains operated and for a period of 2 seconds after the switch is released. This latter period is sufficient for two complete sweeps of the windscreen wiper blades.
