WINDOWS OPERATION

The powered windows can be operated only when the ignition is switched on. The master power window switch is mounted in the centre console and incorporates 4 power window switches, a master power window isolation switch, and a driver’s power window "express down" control unit. The driver’s power window is controlled by a switch contained in the master power window switch. The driver’s power window switch contains an "express down" feature. The front passenger’s power window is also operated by a switch in the master power window switch but it does not contain an "express down" feature. The rear power windows can be operated from either the master power window switch or from a separate switch mounted in each door. The front passenger’s power window and both rear power windows are disabled when the master power window isolation switch is turned on.

Electrical Description

Battery voltage is applied at all times from fuse 15 in the engine compartment fusebox to the window power relay. When the ignition is turned on, voltage is applied on the Y/G wire from fuse 5 in the passenger compartment fusebox to the coil of the window power relay. Earth is provided to the coil by the B wire. The relay energises and voltage is applied on the W/Y, U/B, G/B, and Y/B wires to the driver’s window, front passenger’s window, LH rear window, and RH rear window switches respectively. Voltage is also applied on the G/B and Y/B wires to the LH rear and RH rear window switches contained in each door. Each power window circuit is protected by the following fuses in the engine compartment fusebox:

Driver’s power window -fuse 39 (RHD) fuse 38 (LHD)

Front passenger’s power window - fuse 38 (RHD) fuse 39 (LHD)

LH rear power window - fuse 36

RH rear power window - fuse 37

When the driver’s window switch is moved to the "up" position, voltage is applied on the R/U wire to the driver’s window motor. Earth is provided on the R/Y wire and the driver’s window motor will be driven up until the switch is released or the window is fully closed. When the driver’s window switch is moved to the "down" position, the voltage is reversed and the motor is driven
