Diagram showing brake disc installed within the caliper assembly, with callout number 6 pointing to the disc surface for measurement.
  1. Using a micrometer positioned 10 mm from the outer edge of the disc, measure the thickness of the disc at four points.

Data: Disc thickness:
Ventilated disc, new = 21 mm
Ventilated disc, service limit = 19.0 mm
Solid disc, new = 12.7 mm
Solid disc, service limit = 10.7 mm
Max. disc thickness variation = 0.015 mm.

  1. Renew brake disc if below service limits or disc thickness variation is outside tolerance.

Note: Brake discs must be renewed in pairs, unless one disc requires changing at 1000 mile (1500 km) service. In this situation renewal of one disc is permissible.

  1. Remove 2 screws securing brake disc to drive flange.
  2. Remove brake disc from drive flange, using jacking screws if necessary.
  3. Inspect mating surfaces of disc and drive flange and clean thoroughly using a wire brush.
  4. Fit brake disc to drive flange and secure using 4 x M12 nuts (not the wheel nuts). Tighten nuts to 70 Nm.
