Steering Wheel: Service and Repair
WARNING: Refer to Air Bags and Seat Belts/Service Precautions/Technician Safety Information/Supplemental Inflatable Restraints
(SIR).
1. Remove screw caps on steering wheel with flat head screwdriver.
2. Remove inflator module screws.
3. Remove inflator module from steering wheel.
4. Remove integral connector lock device.
5. Disconnect electrical connector and remove inflator module.
6. Disconnect horn switch electrical connector and cruise control electrical connector, if equipped.
7. Remove steering wheel attaching nut.
8. Remove steering wheel with suitable steering wheel puller.
9. Feed electrical wiring through steering wheel and remove steering wheel.
10. Insert yellow tab into SIR coil assembly or use tape to prevent rotating SIR coil.
11. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Install new steering wheel attaching nut and torque to 30 ft. lbs.
b. Torque inflator module attaching bolts to 7.9 ft. lbs.
