Strut Cartridge: Service and Repair

1. Mount strut spring compressor tool No. SA9155S, or equivalent, in a suitable holding device, then position strut assembly in compressor.
2. Fasten strut to tool using one strut to knuckle bolt and nut in lower strut mounting hole, then compress spring until upper spring supports are

completely unladen.

3. While holding strut shaft in position with a suitable Torx wrench, remove strut shaft nut.
4. Release spring compressor and tilt strut assembly outward, then remove upper spring support and spring from strut.
5. Remove dust shield, then remove strut from compressor tool.
6. Inspect strut assembly components as follows:

a. Inspect rubber spring support and dust shield for cracks or deterioration; replace as necessary.
b. Inspect spring for signs of damage.
c. Extend and retract strut shaft; if movement is not smooth or resistance is not even, replace strut.

7. Reverse procedure to assemble, noting the following:

a. Compress spring only enough to install upper washer and shaft nut.

WARNING: Do not compress spring beyond this point.

b. Ensure spring is properly seated in spring supports.
c. Tighten strut shaft nut to specifications.
