  Note
All cable clamps that become loose or cut when removing must be re-installed in the same place when installing.
–  Put the gear selector lever into position „P“.
–  Remove engine cover → Booklet101.
–  Remove the air filter body, breather hose and air duct hoses → Rep. gr.24 and → Rep. gr.23 .
  WARNING
Take all the necessary precautionary measures when disconnecting the battery → Electrical system; Rep. gr. 27.
   
–  Remove cover -1- above the battery. To do this press the release tab -arrow-.

–  Disconnect battery earth strap-arrow-with the ignition switched off.

–  Remove battery → Electrical system; Rep. gr.27.
–  Remove battery tray -arrows-.

–  Release the selector lever cable -3- from the selection shaft lever, using, e.g. a 10 mm spanner. -Pos. 1-.
–  Squeeze the insertion elements on the selector lever control cable counter support -arrows- and extract the control cable from the counter support on the gearbox.
–  Separate the electrical connection -4- and leave the cable open on the bracket -2-.
–  Unbolt the cable counter support from gearbox.

–  Unscrew the earth cable -3-.
–  Touch the vehicle earth with the hand (without gloves) to release static energy.
–  Remove cables -1- and -2- from the starter motor and leave them to one side.

–  Mark the ATF radiator hoses with respect to the ATF radiator in order to avoid confusion when fitting.
  Note
Depending on the stage of fitting, before fitting the ATF radiator, there is a plastic tube that must be refitted in position.
–  Pinch off the ATF radiator hoses using the clamp -U 30042- and separate them from the ATF radiator.
–  Cover the ATF radiator with clean cloths, using the kit -T20017A -.

–  Unbolt all the bolts joining the engine and the gearbox which are accessible from above.
  Note
In order to support the engine correctly with the support -U-30025E- this must be centred as much as possible with the axis of the engine assembly.

–  Fit the engine and gearbox support -U 30025E- on bolted flange for wing panels.
–  Engage the trigger snaps of the spindles on the lifting eyes.
  Note
To secure the engine assembly with the support -U 30025E- this must be centred as much as possible with the symmetrical axis of the engine assembly.
–  Pre-tension engine with both spindles uniformly and without raising it.

–  Remove the console from the gearbox -A-; to do this unscrew the bolts -1- and -2-.
–  Raise vehicle.

–  Remove both front wheels.
–  Remove central soundproofing -Anchorage points 1 ... 3-.
–  Remove front wheel housing moulding → Exterior fittings; Rep. gr.66 .

–  Disconnect electrical connection -1- from the oil level and temperature sender -G266 -.

–  Unscrew from the subframe -arrow- the shield for the power steering control unit -J500 -.

–  Fit the support tool -T20185- instead of the shield of the power steering control unit -J500- and adjust the engine tool -T20111- on the engine block, as shown in the illustration.
–  Tense the counterhold -T20111- slightly before loosening the engine brackets from the bodywork.

–  Unplug connectors -1- and -3- on the automatic gearbox.
–  Unscrew the electric cable bracket from the lower starter motor attachment bolt.
–  Secure the bracket forwards along with the cables.

Disregard -Pos. 2-.

–  Extract the bolts -1 ... 3- unscrew and remove the pendulum support.

–  Unscrew the bracket for the exhaust system -arrows- along with the bracket for the lambda probe -1-.

–  Remove the heat shield for right complete half-shaft by unscrewing the bolts -arrows-.

–  If fitted, unscrew the bolts -A- and -B- and remove the reinforcement -1-.
–  Remove articulated shaft → Running gear, axles, steering; Rep. gr.40.

–  Remove the hood from the opening for the converter bolts -arrow-.
–  Remove the 6 bolts -arrow- for attachment of the torque converter on the drive plate using a 15 mm interface spanner.

–  Lower the engine / gearbox assembly using the spindles on the support -U 30025E- about 50 mm.

–  Move the engine by adjusting the support -T20111- on the engine block in order to facilitate the removal and fitting of the gearbox.

–  Place support tool -T20138C- on the base - T20145-, and fit to the hydraulic jack -SAT 1040- using the adapter for the hydraulic engine and gearbox jack -SAT 1001/1-.

–  Fix the gearbox using the adapter -T20138/1 -, adapter -T20138/2 - and adapter -T20138/3 - as shown in the illustration.
–  Support the gearbox lifting the reception assembly for the gearbox from below.

–  Remove the remaining joining bolts for the engine and gearbox.

–  Release the gearbox from the engine; when doing this, separate the torque converter from the drive plate.
–  Press torque converter against ATF pump.
–  Lower the gearbox carefully and guide it downwards passing to the side of the subframe.

–  To handle the gearbox, secure the torque converter adequately using the fitting tool -T20021- and the support tool -T20194 -.
–  Correctly adjust the position of the gearbox using the base -T20145 -.
