Checking function of viscous coupling
Checking function of viscous coupling
–  Drive front wheels of vehicle onto rolling road.
  Warning
Ensure area in front of vehicle is kept free. Carry out test with care to avoid damage.
–  Engage “D” and slowly start driving.
l  If the vehicle is pushed off the rolling road at an engine speed of 1500 to 2500 rpm, the viscous coupling OK.
When the front wheels are driven whilst the rear wheels are stationary, the viscous coupling will lock up. This means that the rear wheels are also driven.
The viscous coupling can accept differing speeds for a short period without locking up only with 1st gear engaged and engine speed slightly above idling speed.
