Special tools and workshop equipment required
   
t  Torque wrench kit -SAT 8010-, see equivalent → Anchor

t  Haldex clutch filling device -VAS 6291-, see equivalence → Anchor
Prerequisite:
l  The vehicle should be in a horizontal position.
l  The bevelled gear must be positioned in its fitting position.
–  Raise the vehicle.
–  Remove centre sound insulation → Bodywork, exterior installation work; Rep. gr.50.
  Note
The Haldex clutch filling device -VAS 6291- must be used for refilling the oil.

–  Route the hose for the filling device -VAS 6291- through the engine compartment.

–  Unscrew the heat protection plate for the right cardan shaft from the anchorage on the bevel gear -arrow-.
–  Place the tray -T20173- under the bevelled gear.

–  Remove oil filler plug -arrow- in bevel box.

–  Separate the adapter -A- and the elbow piece -B-.
–  Screw in the adapter -A- until the limit.
–  Lock the elbow piece -B- with the adapter -A-.
l  Hose must not sag.

–  Ensure that the valve -arrow- is closed.
–  Screw oil reservoir -A- onto the filling device -VAS 6291-.
–  Now open valve -arrow- and hold oil reservoir as shown in illustration.

l  When bevel box is filled correctly oil will emerge at adapter -A-.
–  After oil has escaped from adapter -A-, place the reservoir at a lower position to enable part of the excess oil to drain back from the hose into the reservoir.
–  When no more oil flows back, remove the filling device -VAS 6291-.
–  Careful, oil is still running in the hose for the filling device -VAS 6291-.
–  Screw the old oil filler plug back in.
–  Raise the vehicle until the wheels can rotate freely.
–  Start engine, engage a gear and allow gearbox to turn for approx. 2 minutes.
–  Stop engine and unscrew oil filler plug.
–  If necessary, refill with oil to the lower edge of the filling hole.

–  Screw in the new oil fill screw -arrow- and tighten → Anchor.

–  Screw the heat protection plate for the right cardan shaft from the anchorage onto the bevel gear -arrow- and tighten to the tightening torque → Anchor.
–  Install centre sound insulation → Bodywork, exterior installation work; Rep. gr.50.
