Special tools and workshop equipment required
   
t  Tube element -VW 423-
  W00-0140
t  Pressing-off lever -T20143/1-
t  Sealing grease -G 052 128 A1-
–  Remove complete air filter housing if it is over selector shaft → Rep. gr.23 or → Rep. gr.24.
–  Remove relay lever together with cable end-piece → Chapter
–  Remove gearbox selector lever → Chapter.

–  Pry out oil seal using oil seal extractor lever -T20143/1-.
  A34-0635
–  Lightly oil outer circumference of oil seal.
–  Pack space between sealing lip and dust lip -arrow- half full with sealing grease -G 052 128 A1-.
  N32-0001
–  Drive in oil seal with tube -VW 423- as far as the stop.
The remaining installation steps are carried out in reverse sequence - note the following points:

The gearbox selector lever can be installed in only one position.
–  If removed, install complete air filter housing → Rep. gr.23 or → Rep. gr.24
