Check and adjust the selector lever control cable.
Check and adjust the selector lever control cable.
Adjusting selector lever cable: verification
l  Selector mechanism checked → Chapter.
–  From position „P“ and with the button pressed in, pull the selector lever back approximately 5 mm and hold in this position, without engaging „R“.
–  Release the selector lever.
l  The selector lever should spring back into „P“ position automatically.
–  If this is not the case, adjust selector lever cable → Anchor.
–  Place the selector lever in position „N“.
–  From position „N“ and with the button pressed in, pull the selector lever back approximately 5 mm and hold in this position, without engaging „D“.
–  Release the selector lever.
l  The selector lever should spring back into „N“ position automatically.
–  If this is not the case, adjust selector lever cable → Anchor.
–  From position „N“ and with the button pressed in, pull the selector lever forwards approximately 5 mm and hold in this position, without engaging „R“.
–  Release the selector lever.
l  The selector lever should spring back into „N“ position automatically.
–  If this is not the case, adjust selector lever cable → Anchor.
   
Adjusting selector lever cable
–  Make sure that securing clip -arrow- is pressed all the way down and properly seated.
  Note
Always renew securing clip -arrow- after removal.
–  Shift the selector lever from „P“ to „S“.
–  Check protective sleeve on front of shift unit (on selector lever cable) for damage. If necessary renew selector lever cable.
–  Put the gear selector lever into position „P“.
l  The selector mechanism and selector lever cable should operate smoothly. If this is not the case, renew selector lever cable or service selector mechanism → Chapter.
–  Switch ignition OFF.

–  Loosen bolt -arrow-.
  Note
The selector lever in the selector mechanism must remain in „P“ position when clamping bolt -B- is loosened, otherwise the adjustment will not be correct.

–  Move the selector rod shaft to „"P"“. To do this, press selector shaft lever towards cable support bracket in direction of -arrow-.
–  Turn both front wheels in one direction, e.g. by pushing the vehicle forwards, until the detent lever in the gearbox engages in the parking lock gear.
l  The parking lock has engaged when it is no longer possible to rotate both wheels in the same direction.
–  Carefully move selector lever slightly forwards and backwards, without shifting lever into a different selector lever position.
  Note
The selector lever cable is then relieved of stress.

–  Tighten bolt -arrow- on selector lever cable smoothly and evenly (tightening torque: 13 Nm) is located behind the plug.
  Note
On tightening the bolt -B- ensure that the selector lever cable does not move.
