t  Central diagnosis -VAS 505X-
Procedure:
l  Vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system -VAS 505X- connected.
–  Select the respective basic setting function on the Central diagnosis -VAS 505X- (in the „Guided Fault Finding“ in the directory „02 - Gearbox electronics“).
l  All instructions in the Central diagnosis -VAS 505X- must be followed for the complete execution of the basic settings.
The following „basic settings“ are available:
t  1. „Complete basic setting“
t  2. „Idle run basic setting“
t  3. „Removal position basic setting“
Description of the basic settings:
1. Complete basic setting
The „complete basic setting“ must be carried out after completing the following work:
t  When the gearbox is operated for the first time
t  after removing the dual clutch
t  when the mechatronic unit for dual clutch gearbox -J743- with control unit has been renewed.
  Note
t  A quick and fundamental self adjustment of the gearbox is carried out using the „complete basic setting“ that is performed using the Central diagnosis -VAS 505X -. The positioning members of the clutch and gearbox are adjusted automatically again. The current drag point of the clutch, the clutch wear, the synchronisation points and the position of the positioning members of the clutch are determined and saved when engaged in a gear (end position of the positioning members of the gearbox).
t  Generally, the clutch adaption is carried out according to the clutch wear while the vehicle is being driven daily. However, this adaption is only possible under specific driving conditions. For this reason a „Basic setting“ of the clutch must be performed after certain repairs, as listed above. This achieves optimum adjustment for gearshifts and clutch engagement when moving off.
2. Idle run basic setting
With the „idle run basic setting“, an attempt is made to switch all gears so that the vehicle can be pushed by hand (e.g. when the clutch is damaged).

3. Removal position basic setting
t  With the „removal position basic setting“, the positioning members of the gearbox are placed in their removal position. This results in the mechatronic not »catching« during removal.
t  Both positioning members of clutch -A- and -B- are moved out completely in the -direction of the arrow-. The mechatronic pushes and moves both levers for operating the cutch -1- and -2-.
t  This enables a suitable screwdriver, chisel or mandrel (for securing purposes) to be inserted between both levers of the clutch operation and the gearbox casing without applying force. This is necessary for certain types of repair work.
t  Both positioning members of the clutch -A- and -B- are »loosened« when the ignition is turned off. The lever for operating the clutch -1- and -2- press the positioning member of the clutch back towards the mechatronic. Before starting up the vehicle, all »securing units« fitted must be removed.
