Position of selector elements
Before repairs on the gearbox, first perform self-diagnosis with -VAS 5051- → Automatic gearbox 099 - 4-gear; Rep. Gr.01.
Fig. N37-0200 shows automatic gearbox 01M. The positions of selector elements in the automatic gearbox 099 are identical.
1 - 2nd and 4th gear brake -B2-
2 - Reverse gear clutch -K2-
3 - 1st to 3rd gear clutch -K1-
4 - 3rd and 4th gear clutch -K3-
5 - Reverse gear brake -B1-
6 - Freewheel
7 - Lock-up clutch integrated in torque converter -LC-

Position of selector elements
   
The following table shows which selector elements are operated in the individual gears to help you deal with complaints regarding poor acceleration and speed performance or generally with drive train faults. The table makes it possible to determine which selector elements are not operating properly.
All gears will be shifted hydraulically.
All forward gears are driven mechanically at a predetermined load and speed via the torque converter lock-up clutch.
