Removing and installing front passenger side airbag unit with igniter
Removal
  WARNING
t  Observe safety regulations for pyrotechnic components → Chapter.
t  Observe disposal regulations for pyrotechnic components → Chapter.
t  Note assignment of airbag unit to dash panel → Electronic parts catalogue.
–  Disconnect battery earth cable with ignition switched on → Electrical system; Rep. gr.27.
–  Remove glove compartment → Chapter.
  WARNING
Before handling pyrotechnic components (e.g. separating the electrical connector), the person handling them must ensure that he/she is „electrically discharged“. for example by briefly grasping hold of door striker plate.
   
–  Pull out connector mechanism -1- carefully with small screwdriver -arrow- and unplug electrical connector -2-.
–  Unscrew two bolts -3- and -4- in each case.
–  Remove front passenger side airbag downwards.
  WARNING
Set down airbag with impact cushion facing upwards.
Installation
  WARNING
t  Observe safety regulations for pyrotechnic components → Chapter.
t  Before handling pyrotechnic components (e.g. connecting the electrical connector), the person handling them must ensure that he/she is „electrically discharged“. for example by briefly grasping hold of door striker plate.
t  For correct allocation of dash panel and airbag refer to → Electronic parts catalogue.
Installation is carried out in the reverse sequence; note the following:

t  Make sure electrical connectors are correctly fitted and engage with a click.
t  Ensure that no cables are trapped.
–  Fit new dash panel after airbag has been triggered → Chapter.
  WARNING
The battery must be connected with the ignition switched on. If pyrotechnic components (e.g. airbag or belt tensioner) are inexpertly repaired, this may result in unwanted triggering after connecting the battery. There must not be anyone in the vehicle while you are connecting the battery.
–  Connect battery earth cable with ignition switched on → Electrical system; Rep. gr.27.
  Note
If the airbag warning lamp -K75- indicates a fault following installation, the event memory must be read, cleared and then read again → Vehicle diagnostic tester.
Information for the fitter: for example tightening torques, renewing components → Chapter.
