Removing and installing driver airbag unit
Removing and installing driver airbag unit
  Note
The screwdriver mentioned in the following activities should be about 120 mm long and have a blade width of about 7 mm.
Removal
  WARNING
t  Observe safety regulations for pyrotechnic components → Chapter.
t  Observe disposal regulations for pyrotechnic components → Chapter.
–  With ignition switched off, disconnect earth connection from battery.
–  Release steering column adjustment.
–  Move the steering column to the lower position.
–  Lock steering column adjustment.
–  Remove the upper steering column trim.
–  Turn steering wheel 90° to left or right.
   
–  Insert a flat screwdriver into the square support on the rear side of the steering wheel -4- in the upper part of the securing clip -2-.
–  Move the screwdriver in the direction of the -arrow-.
This causes the retaining clip -2- to move to the rear and release the fastener.
  Caution
As soon as retaining clip -2- is released, the airbag should come out partially.
–  Turn the steering wheel 180º and repeat the same operation.
–  Put the steering wheel in its centre position (wheels straight).
–  Loosen the airbag unit from the steering wheel.
  WARNING
Before handling pyrotechnic components (e.g. separating the electrical connector), the person handling them must ensure that he/she is „electrically discharged“. for example by briefly grasping hold of door striker plate.
–  Disengage the lock of the plug connection in the direction of the -arrow- and remove the plug connector -1- from the airbag -2-.

–  Detach airbag -2-.
  WARNING
Place airbag to one side such that SEAT emblem points upwards.
Installation
  WARNING
t  Follow safety regulations for pyrotechnic components.
t  Before handling pyrotechnic components (e.g. connecting the electrical connector), the person handling them must ensure that he/she is „electrically discharged“. for example by briefly grasping hold of door striker plate.
–  Have the plug connector -1- engage in its mount. The airbag connector must audibly engage.
–  Place the airbag unit in the assembly position. Fit by pressing first on the horizontal spoke area and then the vertical.
Continue the assembly in the reverse order to removal, remembering to:
–  Switch off all electrical components.
–  Switch on ignition.
–  Close vehicle windows.
  WARNING
The battery must be connected with the ignition switched on. If pyrotechnic components (e.g. airbag or belt tensioner) are inexpertly repaired, this may result in unwanted triggering after connecting the battery. There must not be anyone in the vehicle while you are connecting the battery.
–  Connect battery earth cable with ignition switched on → Electrical system; Rep. gr.27.
  Note
If airbag warning lamp -K75- indicates a fault following installation, event memory must be read, cleared and read again → Vehicle diagnostic tester.
