General notes
t  Testing, removing, installing and repair work may only be performed by qualified personnel.
t  Never perform tests using a test lamp, voltmeter or ohmmeter.
t  Pyrotechnic components may only be tested while installed, using suitable vehicle diagnostic, testing and information systems. Example: Vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system -VAS 505X-.
t  Before handling pyrotechnic components of the restraint system (such as to unplug the connector), the person concerned must „discharge static“, For this for example shortly touch the door lock safety catch.
t  Always disconnect the battery when working on pyrotechnic components of the restraint system and/or on the airbag control unit -J234-.
t  When disconnecting the battery all electrical loads and the ignition must be SWITCHED OFF → Rep. gr.27. Next cover the negative pole of the battery.
t  After disconnecting the battery, work can be recommenced immediately
t  When connecting the battery all electrical loads must be switched off and the ignition must be SWITCHED ON . If pyrotechnic components of the restraint system are inexpertly repaired, this may result in unwanted triggering after connecting the battery. There must not be anyone in the vehicle while you are connecting the battery.
t  Please mind the measures after connection the battery → Rep. gr.27.
t  Pyrotechnic components must never be opened or repaired. Always use new parts.
t  Pyrotechnic components which have been dropped onto a hard surface or which show signs of damage must not be used.
t  Pyrotechnic components of the restraint system must be installed immediately after being removed from their packaging.
t  If the work is interrupted, pyrotechnic components must be placed back into the packaging.
t  Pyrotechnic components of the restraint system must not be left lying unattended.
t  Always „wash hands“ after handling pyrotechnic components of the restraint system which have been triggered.
t  When connecting pyrotechnic components of the restraint system, there should be no-one in the vehicle other than the person performing the work.
t  Storage and transport must be in accordance with the statutory regulations of the countries in question.
t  Pyrotechnic components must never be treated with grease, cleaning agents or similar.
t  Pyrotechnic components must not be exposed to temperatures higher than 100 °C even for brief periods of time.
Airbag units
t  Following removal, airbag units must be stored with cushioned side facing upwards.
t  Always renew airbag unit if fabric is contaminated by oil, grease, paint, solvent or similar.
t  There is no specified interval for renewing airbag units.
Always keep to the following sequence when renewing airbag units:
1 - Remove old airbag unit and set it down with cushioned side facing upwards.
2 - Remove new airbag unit from transportation container and set it down with cushioned side facing upwards.
3 - Immediately place old airbag unit in packaging.
4 - Install new airbag unit in vehicle.
Belt tensioners and belt force limiters
t  Belt tensioner units which are mechanically damaged (dents, fractures) always must be renewed.
t  The open side of the belt tensioner should not be pointed at people.
t  When connecting the belt tensioner unit, all mechanical parts (including those of the three-point seat belt) must be properly attached.
