When working on the engine, it should be secured to engine bracket VW 540 using support clamp VW 313.

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items

• ◆ Workshop crane V.A.G 1202 A
• ◆ Lifting tackle 2024 A
• ◆ Engine/gearbox bracket VW 540
• ◆ Supplementary set VW 540/1 A
• ◆ Support clamp VW 313

Work sequence

• ‒ Remove gearbox.
• ‒ Bolt engine/gearbox bracket VW 540 with supplementary set VW 540/1 A on cylinder block.

• ‒ → Attach lifting device 2024 A as follows and lift engine out of engine/gearbox jack using workshop crane.

    Pulley end:
    4th hole in hook at position 1

    Flywheel end:
    4th hole in hook at position 8

Notes:

• ◆ The positions marked 1...4 on the bar must be towards the pulley end.
• ◆ The holes in the hook rails are counted up from the hook.

• ‒ Fit engine in support clamp VW 313 using workshop crane V.A.G 1202 A.
