Repairing air conditioning and heating - engine compartment
Repairing air conditioning and heating - engine compartment
  Note
Parts marked with * can be repaired only by specially trained mechanics in suitable workshops → Chapter since the refrigerant must be extracted beforehand.

1 - Evaporator*
q   In passenger compartment
2 - Radiator fan thermal switch -F18-
q   Switches the radiator fan to first and second speed as the coolant temperature increases (on at 102° C, off at 95° C).
3 - Radiator fan relay -J26-
q   Note part number.
q   Initiates the first and second fan speeds. For the coolant temperature and refrigerant pressure range.
q   Close to battery
4 - Water drain pipe
q   Checking → Fig.
5 - Coolant temperature sender -G62-
q   Sends information to the engine control unit or radiator fan control unit -J293- by means of which the air conditioning system magnetic clutch -N25- switches off if the coolant temperature is too high (off at 119 °C, on at 112 °C).
6 - Condenser*
q   Removing and installing → Chapter
7 - Evacuating and charging valve*
q   High-pressure side
8 - High-pressure safety valve*
  WARNING
Danger of freezing injuries.
When the pressure in the refrigerant circuit is too high (e.g. due to overfilling), refrigerant leaks out of high-pressure safety valve.
Wear protective goggles and suitable clothing.
q   Checking → Chapter
9 - Air conditioner compressor*
q   Self-regulating
Running-in procedures → Chapter.
10 - Refrigerant line*
11 - Air conditioning system magnetic clutch -N25-
q   Removing and installing → Chapter
12 - Receiver with dryer cartridge
q   Removing dryer cartridge → Chapter
  Note
Under certain conditions, it is no longer necessary to renew the dryer cartridge each time the refrigerant circuit is opened; see Workshop Manual Air conditioning system with refrigerant R134a → Rep. Gr.00, Technical data; Renewing components.
13 - Air conditioning system pressure switch -F129-
q   Checking → Chapter
q   Removing and installing:
q   8 Nm
q   Renew O-ring (note part number)
q   Controls the second fan speed
14 - Ambient temperature switch -F38-
q   Switches off air conditioning system magnetic clutch -N25- if the ambient temperature is too low (off at -1 °C, on at 7 °C).
15 - Connector*
q   Rotating
16 - Evacuating and charging valve*
q   Low-pressure side
17 - Dust and pollen filter
q   Removing → Chapter
18 - Expansion valve*
q   Removing → Chapter
