Evaporator housing: removing and fitting
Evaporator housing: removing and fitting
  Note
t  The refrigerant must first be removed, for example using the -VAS 6007A- equipment.
t  It is possible to continue using the service equipment which has been used to date ⇒ Catalogue of workshop equipment, V.A.G.
t  All open components of the refrigerant circuit must be closed using suitable plugs to prevent the entrance of damp.
t  It is illegal to dump refrigerant in the environment.
–  Drain coolant → Rep. Gr.19.
–  Dismantling dash panel insert → Rep. Gr.70
–  Remove the detatchable parts of the air conditioning → Chapter
   
1 - Air distributor housing
q   Do not disassemble
q   With temperature flap and air distribution flaps
2 - Air flow duct, lower element
q   Assemble the upper and lower elements → Fig.
3 - Clip
q   Press upwards with a screwdriver
4 - Evaporator
q   Fit the sealing element on the refrigerant pipes → Fig..
q   With the sealing element in the evaporator
q   With the sealing element in the evaporator → Fig.
5 - Air flow duct, upper element
q   Assemble the upper and lower elements → Fig.
6 - Intake duct
q   With air recirculation and fresh air flap (speed flap)
7 - Clip
q   Press upwards with a screwdriver
8 - Support for servomotor -V70-
9 - Servomotor for the central flap -V70-
Checking: Select the function “Fault finding guide” on the Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System -VAS 5051- or later models.
q   With potentiometer - servomotor for central flap -G112-
q   Removing and fitting → Chapter
q   After replacing: With the Vehicle diagnosis, testing and information system -VAS 5051-, or later models, run basic configuration → Chapter
10 - Ridged panel bolt

   
Fit the sealing element on the refrigerant pipes of the evaporator.
–  Seal the refrigerant pipes -A- with the sealing element -B- with respect to both sections of the housing -C-.

Assemble the air flow duct.
–  Place the clips -A- in their places.
  Note
There are screws in various places, to which you can fix the air flow ducts if necessary. For this, use the same type of screws that are in the other parts of the air conditioning.

Check the sealing element in the evaporator.
–  Check the position of the sealing element -A-; it must be placed in such a way that the condensed water can escape to the drain when the evaporator is fitted.
–  The water drainage openings -B- must be on the bottom when the evaporator is fitted (-C- is the upper element of the air flow duct)
