Checking
Checking
–  Close the bonnet.
–  Close doors, bonnet, windows and sun roof.
–  Connect the central diagnosis -VAS 5051- with the 3m cable -VAS 5051/5A-, with the ignition off, to the 16 pin vehicle diagnosis plug and select the address code „08“ air conditioning electronics → Vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system VAS 5051
–  Open all dash panel vents.
–  Start the engine and operate at the maximum cooling power:
Vehicles fitted with Climatronic:
–  Temperature preselection at lowest (for driver and passenger side).
Vehicles fitted with Climatic
–  With the button „AC“ pressed, the speed „1“ of the Fresh air blower -V2- is selected along with the lowest possible temperature.
–  Read out the measurement block of the left outlet temperature sender -G150- and the right outlet temperature sender -G151- (Climatic: Air temperature sender, central vent -G191-). → Vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system VAS 5051
t  Specifications: Temperature max. 12 ℃ (depending on the ambient temperature), deviations between the measurement values less than 3 ℃.
–  Set the air distribution to instrument panel vents.
–  Set the temperature on the left (driver) side of the Climatronic control unit -J255-/Air conditioning control unit -J301- to the highest possible setting.
t  Specifications: in the corresponding display field, the temperature rises to about that of the engine, in the corresponding display field for the passenger compartment, the temperature rises by about 10℃.
–  Set the temperature on the right (passenger) side of the Climatronic control unit -J255-/Air conditioning control unit -J301- to the highest possible setting.
t  Specifications: in the corresponding display field the temperature rises to about that of the engine, the difference between the display fields is less than 8℃.
–  Regulate the temperature selection for the driver side on the control and indication panel to the lowest possible value.
–  Take corresponding measurement values.
t  Specifications: the temperature for the left side (drivers side) falls in about 5 minutes to less than 12℃ (depending on the ambient temperature).
–  Carry out this test in the same way for the opposite side.
If readings do not match specifications, check:
–  The coolant circuit for air → Engine, mechanics; Rep. gr.19
–  The correct incorporation of the heat exchanger for heating in the air conditioning on the cooling circuit → Engine, mechanics; Rep. gr.19.
–  Check the activation and operation of the left temperature flap servomotor -V158- and the right temperature flap servomotor -V159- (Climatic: Temperature flap servomotor -V68- → Vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system VAS 5051.
–  The sponge material seal in the heat exchanger for heating in the air conditioning must be in good condition → Chapter.
–  The operation of the temperature flaps in the air distribution housing → Chapter.
–  The coolant thermostat (when the thermostat is faulty the coolant does not heat sufficiently) → Engine, mechanics; Rep. gr.19.
