Servicing gear selector mechanism
Adjusting gear selector mechanism

Notes:

The following points are essential to ensure correct selector adjustment:

  • ◆ Moving parts of selector mechanism and transmission elements must be in proper condition.
  • ◆ Selector mechanism must move freely.
  • ◆ Gear selector cable and gate selector cable must be connected to gearbox.

The gearbox, clutch and clutch mechanism must also be in proper condition.

  • ● Gearbox in neutral position.

  • ‒ Pull the gear stick cover off the centre console.
  • ‒ Lever ashtray out from centre console.

=> Repair group 68

  • ‒ → Take gear selector tongued piece and gate selector tongued piece out from mounting, to do this press locking mechanism towards rear onto stop (arrow -1-) and then turn to left to lock (arrow -2-).

  • ‒ → Attach gear stick jig onto stop.
  • ‒ Then secure gear stick jig, to do this assemble release for reverse gear and gear stick knob.

  • ‒ → Press gear selector cable tongued piece -A- and gate selector cable tongued piece -B- in this position into mounting onto stop, then turn locking mechanism to right.

The spring presses the locking mechanism into normal position.

  • ‒ Remove gear stick jig.
  • ‒ Fit covers for centre console and gear stick.

Functional check

  • ● In neutral the gear stick must be in the 3rd/4th gear gate.
  • ‒ Operate clutch.
  • ‒ Select all gears several times. Pay particular attention to the operation of the reverse gear lock.
