Removing and installing charge air cooler
Consult the equivalence table for tools and equipment according to applicability among Seat / VW / Audi / Skoda → Chapter.
Special tools and workshop equipment required
   
t  counterhold -T10038-, see equivalent → Anchor
  W00-1005
t  Centre guide -T20070-, see equivalent → Anchor
t  Torque wrench -VAG 1331-, see equivalent → Anchor.
Removal:
  WARNING
The air conditioning refrigerant circuit must not be opened.
To prevent damage to the air conditioning compressor and refrigerant pipes/hoses, ensure that the pipes and hoses are not stretched, kinked or bent.
»Carry out the following work sequence«
  Note
When removing the intercooler, it is not necessary to drain the coolant nor remove the upper and lower coolant hoses.
–  Remove the underbody protection → Bodywork, exterior assembly work; Rep. gr.50.

–  Remove the connecting hose »hot side«. For this purpose loosen hose clamp -Arrows-.

–  Remove the connecting hose »cold side« from the intercooler. For this purpose, loosen the hose clamp -arrow-.

–  Unplug electrical connection -1- from the radiator fan -V7-.
  Note
The item -arrow- can be disregarded.
–  Move the lock carrier to the service position when considering that neither the coolant have to be drained nor does the top and bottom coolant hoses have to be disconnected → Bodywork exterior fitting work; Rep. gr.50.

–  Press the upper locking elements -1- on both sides to remove the air duct from the radiator. Take the duct out upwards -arrow-.

–  Unscrew the bolts -1- that fasten the radiator to the lock carrier plate.
  Note
Disregard item -2-.

–  Lift the cooler / condenser / intercooler unit and move in the direction of the -arrow- For releasing the fixings -1-, remove the unit from the lock carrier.
  Note
In order to avoid damage to the condenser or the pipes/hoses of the refrigerant, avoid pulling, bending or twisting excessively.

–  Fix the cooler / condenser / intercooler unit to the lock carrier using the retaining tool -T10038- as shown in the illustration.

–  For separating the intercooler -1- from the cooler, press the locking element using a suitable tool.

–  Move the intercooler -1- to the right and remove from the cooler -2-.
–  Remove the intercooler.
Installation
  WARNING
Make sure that the locking elements have been connected correctly from the radiator to the supercharger.
–  Mount the unit of the coolant radiator and supercharger from underneath.

–  Insert both centring pins of the charged air cooler in their mountings on the lock carrier -1-.
Installation is carried out in reverse order, noting the following:

Secure all hose connections with original clamps.
–  Fit the lock carrier assembly: → Bodywork, exterior fitting work; Rep. gr.50 .
