–  Using the fuel tank with the fuel drainage equipment -VAS 5190-, extract the fuel as far as possible through the filler neck:
–  Fold down the rear seat forwards. → Bodywork, interior fitting work; Rep. gr.72.
–  Raise cover of fuel delivery unit.
   
–  Remove the fuel return line (blue or with blue markings) -B- from the fuel supply unit.
–  Connect the line of the pressure tester -VAS 6550/1- to the fuel supply line -A-.
–  Guide the open end of the line into a suitable container.
–  Connect vehicle diagnosis tester and carry out guided function „Checking electronic fuel pump(s)“.
  Note
The fuel pump is now activated for 30 seconds.
–  Repeat this procedure until the fuel tank has been emptied completely.
–  Remove the fuel delivery unit and check for soiling and chippings.
–  Clean the fuel tank and then install back in the fuel supply unit.
–  Fill 5 litres of Diesel fuel into the tank and perform the guided function „Electrical fuel pump(s): check“ empty.
–  Replace the fuel filter → Chapter.
–  Renew following high-pressure components:
t  High-pressure pump → Chapter.
t  High-pressure pipes
t  High-pressure accumulator (rail) including fuel pressure regulating valve -N276- and fuel pressure sender -G247- → Chapter
t  Injector unit (solenoid valve injectors) → Chapter
t  Fuel return lines (overflow oil lines)
  N20-10510
–  Connect the fuel return line (blue or with blue markings) -A- back onto the fuel supply unit.
–  Fill the tank full with diesel fuel.
–  Fill / bleed fuel system → Chapter.
–  Perform road test.
