Removal
Removal
–  Remove the engine protection.
–  Separate the air filter flexible pipe from the manifold.
–  Remove the upper element of the intake manifold → Chapter.
–  Remove the upper protector of the toothed belt and the cylinder head cover.
–  Remove the vacuum pump for servobrake amplifier.
–  Remove the Poly-V belt → Chapter.
Engine fitted:
   
–  Turn the crankshaft to TDC for cylinder 1 -arrow-.
  Note!
To separate the threaded stopper of the gearbox, apply the tool -U-20020-.
Engine removed:

–  Fit the adjustment device -U-20010- as shown in the figure.
–  Calibrate the adjustment device -arrow A-, to 32 mm.
The central notch of the vernier calliper is the reference point.
–  Turn the crankshaft until the TDC mark on the flywheel lines up with the tip of the adjustment device -arrow B-.

–  Immobilise the camshaft with the adjustment rule -T20038-.
–  The adjustment rule must centre as follows: With the camshaft fixed, turn until one end of the rule touches the cylinder head. Measure the resulting play at the other end of the rule with a feeler gauge. Insert a feeler with the play reduced to half between the rule and the cylinder head. Then, turn the camshaft in such a way that the rule leans on the calliper. Insert a second feeler of the same size in the other end, between the rule and the cylinder head.

–  Fix the injection pump shaft with the tool -T20102-.
–  Loosen the tensioner roller.
–  Remove the antivibrator/pulley.
–  Remove the lower and central protectors of the toothed belt.
–  Mark the turning direction of the toothed belt.
–  Remove the toothed belt.
