Checking injectors Checking spray pattern and for leaks

Special tools and workshop equipment required

t	Dynometric key -V.A.G 1331- (5...50 Nm)

t	Auxiliary measurement set -V.A.G 1594 C-

t	Digital potentiometer -V.A.G 1630-

t	Measuring glass

Test conditions l  The fuel pressure must be in order, checking → Fig., checking fuel pressure regulator and holding pressure. Test sequence –  Remove air cleaner → Fig.

–  Pull 4-pin connector off ignition transformer -arrow-.

–  Pull the 4-pin connector off coolant temperature sender -G62- with coolant temperature gauge sender -G2--arrow-.

–  Couple the digital potentiometer -V.A.G 1630- up with pins 3 + 4 of the connector, using the auxiliary cables of the -V.A.G 1594 C-, and adjust the side connected to 15 kΩ.

–  Remove the flexible depression tube -arrow- from the fuel pressure control. –  Take out the bunch of cables for the injectors from the fuel distributor. –  Dismount the whole fuel distributor with all the injectors from the cylinder head (the flexible fuel pipes remain coupled) → Item.

–  Place a small container underneath the injector to be checked and remove the connectors from the other injectors. –  Ask someone else to work the starter engine. The injector must perform the injection with a strong-flowing jet. –  Repeat the test on the other injectors, ensuring that only the injector that is going to be checked is connected. –  Then check the seal for the injectors. No more than 2 drops/min must be released. If the loss of fuel is greater: –  Disconnect the engine. –  Replace the faulty injector: → Item. Perform installation of injectors in reverse order. When doing this note the following: t  Renew O-rings on all injectors and lightly moisten with clean engine oil. t  Insert injectors vertically and in the correct position into the fuel rail and secure with retaining clips. t  Place fuel rail with secured injectors on cylinder head and press in evenly.
