Work sequence
Prerequisites
l  The engine must be no more than warm to touch.
–  First check whether a coded radio is fitted. If this is the case obtain the anti-theft coding.
–  With the ignition switched off disconnect battery earth strap.
–  Drain coolant → Chapter.
   
–  Pull fuel supply pipe -1- as well as fuel return pipe -2- off at connection on fuel rail. The fuel system is under pressure, therefore place a cloth over the connection before the hoses are pulled off.
–  Seal the pipes so that the fuel system is not contaminated by dirt etc.
–  Pull hose -3- off activated charcoal filter solenoid valve 1.
  Note!
At assembly, all the wire holders that become loose or are cut when the engine is removed, should be re-installed in the same place as before.
–  Separate front exhaust pipe from exhaust manifold → Chapter, exhaust manifold, front exhaust pipe and catalyst with attachments.
–  Remove toothed belt guard - upper part.

–  The mark on the camshaft sprocket should coincide with the mark on the toothed belt protector. Position the piston of cylinder 1 to TDC and turn the crankshaft back slightly.
–  Release tensioning roller and take toothed belt off camshaft sprocket.
–  Remove the upper part of the intake manifold → Chapter.
–  Remove the coolant connection sleeve.
Only engine code letters APF and AUR:
–  Remove the exhaust gas recirculation union pipe.
–  Remove the intake and pressure hoses from the secondary air pump.
–  Remove the secondary air pump motor and the support.
–  Remove the connector of lambda probe 1 before the catalyst, next to the rear engine unit support.
–  Remove cylinder head cover.

–  Loosen the cylinder head bolts with spanner M10 of the -U-40020- or with the spanner -T20079-“Polydrive bolts” in the specified order and remove them.
–  Carefully lift cylinder head off.
