Camshaft oil seal: replacement t  Removing → Anchor t  Installing → Anchor t  Tightening torques → Anchor

Special tools and workshop equipment required

t	Extractor -2085-, see equivalent → Anchor

t	Adjustment sleeve -3265-, see equivalent → Anchor

t	Hose clamp -3415-, see equivalent → Anchor

t	Guide sleeve -T10071-, see equivalent → Anchor

t  Torque wrench -VAG 1332-, see equivalent → Anchor. Removing –  Take notched belt off camshaft sprocket → Chapter.

–  Loosen camshaft sprocket. To do this use counter hold -3415-. –  Take camshaft gear off. –  Remove spring buckle from the camshaft.

–  To guide oil seal extractor, screw securing bolt for camshaft sprocket into camshaft as far as it will go by hand. –  Adjust so that inner part of puller -2085-is flush with outer part and then arrest with knurled screw. –  Oil the threaded head of theextractor -2085-, place and push forcefully as far as it will go into the gasket. –  Loosen the knurled head screw and turn the inner part against the cam shaft till hte sealant ring (gasket) has engaged. –  Clamp flats of oil seal extractor in vice. Remove oil seal with pliers.

Installing   Note Do not oil seal sealing lip. –  Push sealing ring onto guide sleeve -T10071/1-. –  Remove the guide sleeve.

–  Press in seal using pressure socket -3265- and guide sleeve -T10071/2- to stop.   Note Place M12 washer -1- below bolt to reduce wear to pressure socket -3265-. –  Fit the spring buckle in the camshaft.   Caution If a piston is at TDC the valves could strike the piston when turning the camshaft. For this reason, none of the pistons should be at TDC. Otherwise there is a risk of damage to valves and pistons.

–  Camshaft sprocket, using counter-holder -3415-. –  Install toothed belt (adjust valve timing) → Anchor. Tightening torques
