Remove cylindrical pinion on crankshaft and connect to new cylindrical pinion when hot
Remove cylindrical pinion on crankshaft and connect to new cylindrical pinion when hot
Consult the equivalence table for tools and equipment according to applicability among Seat / VW / Audi / Skoda → Chapter.
Special tools and workshop equipment required

t  Puller -10 - 203-, see equivalent → Anchor
  W00-0258
t  Extractor -T10392-with pressure element -T10392/1-, see equivalent → Anchor
t  Electric heat plate (commercially available)
t  Temperature sensor -VAS 6519-, see equivalent → Anchor or manual multimeter -V.A.G 1526D- with temperature sensor -V.A.G 1526D/1-, see equivalent → Anchor
Operation process
–  Remove the seal flange on the pulley side → Chapter.
–  Remove sump → Chapter.
  Note
When the balancing module must not be replaced, it is sufficient to replace only the centre pinion. In this case, replace centre pinion → Anchor.
–  Balancing module: Removing → Chapter.

Remove cylindrical pinion
–  Fit the Adapter -T10392/1- in the crankshaft journal.
  A17-10455
–  Guide puller -T10392- into holes in cylindrical pinion and turn clockwise -arrow-; tighten lock pins -A-.
  A17-10453
–  Arrest crankshaft with box wrench -A-and remove cylindrical pinion on crankshaft pin by turning spindle with box wrench -B-.
Connect cylindrical pinion hot
  Note
t  When heating up new cylindrical pinion, check temperature with temperature meter -VAS 6519-.?
t  If a temperature of 200ºC is reached, 4 seconds are left to position the cylindrical pinion in the crankshaft.
t  A higher temperature increases this time (220ºC = approx. 6 seconds).
t  Ensure that the crankshaft pin is clean.
  Caution
Danger of damage at excessively high temperatures
Do not exceed 240 ºC to prevent that the cylindrical drive pinion changes colour or deforms
  A17-10454
–  Place new pinion with entire surface on straight, commercially available thermo-electric hot plate and heat up to at least 200 °C however not more than 240 °C. The lettering is positioned facing up.
–  Set the temperature measuring device -VAS 6519- to the measuring range „2“.
  A17-10459
–  Place the temperature sensor -VAS 6519/1- onto the belt of the cylindrical journal, as shown in the figure; Read-off the temperature on the temperature measuring device.
  WARNING
Danger of burns
Wear protective gloves for the following work.
–  If the temperature is reached, hold cylindrical drive pinion with aid of pliers (see figure).
  Note
Ensure that the teeth of the cylindrical pinion are not damaged.
  A17-10456
–  Quickly install cylindrical pinion by hand without canting to stop on crankshaft journal using puller -10 - 203-.
–  Allow pinion to cool down several minutes and then install balancing module.
→ Chapter „Installing a new balancer shaft module“.
→ Chapter „Re-installing same balance shaft assembly“.
