Consult the equivalence table for tools and equipment according to applicability among Seat / VW / Audi / Skoda → Chapter.
   
Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Remote control -VAG 1348/3A- with adapter wire -V.A.G 1348/3-3-, see equivalent → Anchor
t  Manual multimeter -VAG 1526C-, see equivalent → Anchor
t  Auxiliary cable kit -VAG 1594C-, see equivalent → Anchor

Test prerequisites
l  Battery voltage at least 12.5 V.
   
l  Fuse in fuse holder -S228- (position 28) OK.
  A97-0242
l  Control unit for fuel pump -J538- Check if OK → Chapter.
l  Fuel filter OK.
l  Ignition switched off
Checking sequence
–  Remove the luggage compartment cover.
–  If necessary, fold forward right backrest of rear seat bench.

–  Loosen the bolts -arrows- and remove the fuel delivery unit.

–  Extract the connector -arrow- from the fuel delivery unit.

–  Connect the remote control -V.A.G 1348/3 A- with adapter cable -V.A.G 1348/3-3- to contact -1- with an auxiliary cable from the auxiliary measurement set -VAG 1594C-.
–  Tape off 2nd connector contact of the adapter cable -V.A.G 1348/3-3- with insulating tape -arrow- to prevent short circuits.
–  Join contact -4- to the bodywork earth using a cable from the auxiliary measurement set -VAG 1594C-.
–  Connect crocodile clip to vehicle battery (+).
–  Press remote control switch.
l  The working of the pump should be audible.
  Note
The fuel pump runs quietly. When testing the fuel pump ensure surrounds are quiet.

If the running of the pump is not audible:
–  Remove fuel delivery unit → Chapter.
–  Check that the electrical wires between flange and fuel pump are connected and test for continuity.
If no fault is detected in the cables, then the fuel pump is faulty.
–  Install fuel delivery unit → Chapter.
