Replacing Valve Stem Seals for Leon Mk1's 20L 2-Valve Injection Engine

t  Removing → Anchor
t  Fitting → Anchor
Consult the equivalence table for tools and equipment according to applicability between Seat / VW / Audi / Skoda → Chapter.
   
Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Torque wrench kit -SAT 8010-, see equivalent → Anchor
t  Measuring tool -T20033-, see equivalent → Anchor
t  Counterhold -T20034D-, see equivalent → Anchor
t  Tappet -T20039-, see equivalent → Anchor
t  Puller -T20058A-, see equivalent → Anchor
t  Wrench -T20175-, see equivalent → Anchor

Removing
(With cylinder head in place)
–  Remove the cylinder head cover → Chapter.
–  Remove camshaft → Chapter.
–  Remove the cam tappets and place them on the contact surface face down, making sure you do not interchange them.
–  Remove spark plugs with spark plug spanner -T20175-.
–  Set piston of the respective cylinder to “bottom dead centre”.
–  Screw measuring tool -T20033- into the spark plug thread.
–  Connect the measuring tool -T20033- to a compressed air network (minimum 6 bar), and remove the valve springs.
   
–  Fix the counterhold -T20034D-into the cylinder head.

–  Remove the valve stem seals using the puller -T20058A-.
Fitting
  E15-10012
–  Fit the plastic sleeve -A- on to the corresponding valve stem (this sleeve is included with the spare part). This will prevent the new valve stem seal from being damaged.
–  Fit the new valve stem seal -B-onto the tappet -T20039-.
–  Oil valve stem seal sealing lip and slide the seal carefully all the way onto the valve guide using the installation tool -T20039-.
–  Remove plastic bushing.
–  Fit the tappets in the place corresponding to stripping.
Continue fitting, following the reverse order of the stripping process.
  Note
Engine is not to be started for approx. 30 minutes after fitting camshafts. The hydraulic compensation parts must settle (otherwise the valves would hit the pistons).
