Checking combination valve > < Removing and installing parts of secondary air system

Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Fault reader -V.A.G 1551- or vehicle system tester -V.A.G 1552-
t  Diagnosis cable -V.A.G 1551/3C-
  Note
The vehicle system tester -V.A.G 1552- can be used instead of the fault reader -V.A.G 1551-, however a print-out is not possible.
Test prerequisites
l  No fault may be stored in fault memory → Rep. Gr.01.
l  The battery voltage must be at least 11.5 V.
l  Secondary air pump relay -J299- fuse OK → Current flow diagrams, Electrical fault finding and Fitting locations
l  Secondary air pump intake hose not blocked or kinked.
Test procedure
–  Remove sound insulation tray → Rep. Gr.50.
   
–  Remove pressure hose -arrow- from secondary air pump motor.
  Note
To release, press buttons on hose coupling together.
–  Activate secondary air pump relay -J299- via final control diagnosis → Rep. Gr.01.
The secondary air pump motor -V101- should run at intervals and air should escape from the outlet point.
If the motor runs but no or little air is delivered:
–  Proceed with final control diagnosis until completed.
–  Press buttons 0 and 6 for function “End output” and confirm entry with Q button.
–  Switch off ignition.
–  Renew secondary air pump motor -V101- → Item.
If secondary air pump motor -V101- does not run at intervals:
–  Check activation of secondary air pump motor -V101- → Rep. Gr.01.
