Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Puller - 10-203-, see equivalent → Anchor
t  Seal extractor -3240-, see equivalent → Anchor
t  Torque wrench (5 - 50 Nm) -V.A.G 1331-, see equivalent → Anchor
t  Torque wrench (40 - 200 Nm) -V.A.G 1332-, see equivalent → Anchor
t  Bolt M12 x 1.5 x 75

Removing .
–  Removed toothed belt from camshaft and high-pressure pump → Chapter.
–  Remove camshaft sprocket and hub → Chapter.
   
–  Insert thrust piece -3240/1- into camshaft.
–  Loosen the inner element of the seal extractor -3240- two full turns (approx. 3 mm) in relation to the outer element, and immobilise it with the knurled bolt.

–  Lubricate threaded head of oil seal extractor, place it in position and, exerting firm pressure, screw it into oil seal as far as possible.
–  Loosen knurled screw and turn inner part against camshaft until oil seal is pulled out.
Fitting .
  Note
The oil seal sealing lip must not be additionally oiled or greased.
–  Remove oil residue from camshaft journal using a clean cloth.

–  Fit guide sleeve of fitting tool -10 - 203- onto camshaft as shown in illustration.
–  Carefully slide oil seal -1- over guide sleeve onto camshaft.

–  Press seal in to stop using thrust piece from fitting tool 10-203 and bolt M12×1.5x75.
–  Install camshaft sprocket and hub → Chapter.
–  Install toothed belt and adjust the valve timing → Chapter.
