Removing and installing sealing flange (gearbox end) Check the tool and equipment equivalence table according to the applicability between Seat / VW / Audi / Skoda → Chapter t  Removing → Anchor t  Installing → Anchor Special tools and workshop equipment required

t  Guide sleeve -T20097-, see equivalent → Anchor t  Electric drill with plastic brush attachment t  Protective glasses t  Sealant → Electronic parts catalogue Removing l  Gearbox removed. –  Remove flywheel → Chapter.

–  Detach intermediate plate at sealing flange and dowel sleeves -arrows-.

–  Unscrew bolts -1 to 8-. –  Remove sealing flange (gearbox end). Installing l  Tightening torques → Chapter t  Silicone sealant: → Electronic spare parts catalogue.   Note t  Observe use-by date of the silicone sealant. t  The sealing flange must be installed within 5 minutes of applying the silicone sealant. –  Remove sealant remaining on cylinder head with flat scraper.   WARNING Protect eyes against injuries. Wear safety goggles.

–  Remove sealant residue on sealing flange using rotating plastic brush or similar. –  Clean sealing surfaces; they must be free of oil and grease.

–  Cut off the tube nozzle on the front marking (diameter of the nozzle approximately. 2 mm).

–  Apply a line of silicon sealant, as shown in the figure, to the clean surface of the frame seal. t  Thickness of the sealant grub: 2 to 3 mm.   Note t  The sealing flange must be installed within 5 minutes of applying silicone sealant. t  The bead of sealant must not be thicker than specified, otherwise excess sealant can enter the sump and obstruct the strainer in the oil intake pipe.

–  Slide the guide sleeve -T20097- onto the crankshaft journal. –  Push sealing flange over guide sleeve -T20097- onto crankshaft journal and tighten bolts immediately; tightening sequence → Fig..   Note After fitting the sealing flange, the sealant must be left to dry for 30 minutes. Only then should the engine be refilled with oil. –  Installation is carried out in the reverse sequence; note the following: –  Install flywheel → Chapter. –  Check oil level → Booklet301.
