Valve control > < Engine block, flanges
Checking tension roller of the derived branch of the notched belt.

–  Memorise the position of the indicator arm -1- of the tension roller. Press the notched belt hard with the thumb -arrow-. The needle must move.
–  Stop pressing the notched belt.
–  Turn the crankshaft two complete turns in the direction of rotation of the engine.
–  Check the position of the needle. The needle should have returned to its original position.
If the indicator arm does not return to the original position:
–  Remove the notched belt → Chapter.
–  Replace the tension roller.
If both tension rollers are correct:
–  Re-install the lower timing belt guard.
–  Install crankshaft pulley. Note the following:
t  Use a new attachment bolt for the pulley and the timing belt wheel.
t  When fitting the pulley check the fixing with respect to the notched belt wheel.
t  Tightening method for the new greased bolt: → Chapter
–  Fit the engine support on cylinder block. Tightening torque: 50 Nm
–  Fit the support assembly on the engine. Tightening torque → Chapter .
–  Installing Poly-V belt → Chapter.
  Note
When fitting the Poly-V belt, make sure that it is correctly seated on the pulleys.
–  Install the centre soundproofing → Bodywork, exterior assembly work; Rep. Gr.50.
Ibiza
–  Remove right wheel housing moulding → Bodywork, exterior fitting work; Rep. Gr.66.
Altea - Altea XL - Leon
–  Remove right wheel housing moulding → Bodywork, exterior fitting work; Rep. Gr.50.
Continued for all vehicles
–  Fasten the coolant expansion tank.
–  Install top notched belt guard.
