Checking the supercharger system for leaks
Checking the supercharger system for leaks
Special tools and workshop equipment required

t  Supercharger system tester -V.A.G 1687-
t  Adapters -V.A.G 1687/5-
–  Remove the central soundproofing pan → Bodywork, exterior fitting work; Rep. Gr.50.
  W00-10327
–  Release the safety fastener -A- and detach the hose -B- from the supercharger air pipe.
  N21-10041
–  Attach the adaptor -V.A.G 1687/5- to the supercharger air hose -A- and turn it approx. 90º -B-.
Prepare the supercharger system tester -V.A.G 1687-, as described below:
  N21-10039
–  Completely unscrew the pressure regulation valve -2- and close the valves -3- and -4-.
  Note
In order to unscrew the pressure regulation valve -2-, the rotary button must be completely upwards.
  V21-0168
–  Connect the supercharger system tester -V.A.G 1687- as shown.
  N21-10040
–  Attach the compressed air hose -1- (compressed air supply) to the supercharger system tester -V.A.G 1687-.
  Note
If there is water in the inspection hole, drain it through the drain screw -6-.
–  Open valve -3-.
–  Set the pressure to 0.5 bar using the pressure regulation valve -2-.
  Caution
The pressure must not exceed 0.5 bar! Excessive pressure may cause damage to the engine.
–  Open the valve -4- and wait for the test circuit to be filled. If necessary reset the pressure to 0.5 bar.
–  Examine whether the load air system is leaking. Use hearing and sense of touch, as well as a leak detection spray -V.A.G 1842- and/or ultrasonic measuring instrument.
  Note
t  Assembly of hose connections with couplings → Chapter.
t  A small amount of air escapes through the valves into the engine. A pressure retention test can therefore not be carried out.
t  Use of the ultrasound measuring device -V.A.G 1842- → Instruction manual.
t  Before removing the adaptor, depressurize the inspection circuit by releasing the coupling of the adaptor -V.A.G 1687/5-.
t  The couplings and air hoses of the supercharging system must be free from oil and grease before assembling.
