Removing and installing the chain of the balance shaft Removing → Anchor. Installing → Anchor. Removing –  Remove the upper cover of the distribution chain → Chapter. –  Remove the lower cover of the distribution chain → Chapter. –  Remove distribution chain → Chapter.

–  Remove the bolts -1- from the distribution chain runner. –  Remove the bolts -3- from the distribution chain tensioner.

–  Remove the balance shaft chain tensioner -1-. –  Remove the bolts -2- and take out the tensioning rail. –  Remove the bolts -3- and take out the top slide rail. –  Remove the bolts -4- and take out the bottom slide rail. –  Remove the balance shaft chain. Fitting l  Tightening torque → Chapter

–  Turn the intermediate pinion / balance shaft as far as the marks -arrow-   Note Due to the ratio, the markings only align after every 7th turn.

–  Position the balance shaft chain; the painted links should be positioned on the marks of the pinions.

–  Fit the lower runner of the chain and tighten the bolts -4-. –  Fit the upper runner of the chain and tighten the bolts -3-. –  Fit the tension rail of the chain and tighten bolt -2-. –  Fit the chain tensioner -1- with securing bolts and tighten to a torque of 65 Nm.

–  Check again that the parts are correctly adjusted.

–  Verify the intermediate pinion / balance shaft -arrow- marks.   Note For illustration purposes, the markings on the idler gear/balance shaft are shown with the chain removed. The remaining installation steps are carried out in the reverse sequence. Note the following: –  Fitting the distribution chain → Chapter. –  Fit the lower cover of the distribution chain → Chapter. –  Install timing chain cover (top) → Chapter. –  Install Poly V-belt tension device → Chapter. –  Install poly V-belt → Chapter. –  Engine / gearbox assembly mounting: Adjusting → Chapter
